There are four world class golf courses within an hour’s drive from Eaglewood Lodge.

Westport: An 18-hole Championship Course, venue for 2002 Smurfit PGA.

Connemara: Links course designed by Eddie Hackett is a 27 hole course situated between the Atlantic and the Twelve Pins Mountain range.

Carne: Another links course situated on the wild Atlantic Ocean in Belmullet in North Mayo It was voted no. 28 in the world in 2005. It was the last links course to be designed by Eddie Hackett.

Enniscrone: Situated on the Sligo coast is another top class links course.

Ballinrobe: Set in medieval surroundings there is a 13th century Tower situated beside the 10th tee.

Sea Angling

The Sea Angling grounds of Clew Bay are recognised as being amongst the best in Europe. The inshore waters of Clew Bay offer excellent shallow water angling. Almost every known species of fish existing in Irish waters has, at some time, been recorded in Clew Bay or in one of the 365 small Islands in around around Clew Bay
Boats can be chartered for angling, cruising or exploring Clew Bay.
Tourists can also experience the ancient fishing boat called the Currach. This age old boat is unique to the West coast of Ireland. It is still used today for salmon fishing from July to the end of August on the Killary harbour. Why not try it yourself. We can take people out for a short tour along the safe shoreline of the Killary and experience these ancient boats dating back to 11th century.

For those who enjoy a gentle pace or a spirited hike across rugged mountain trails, this area offers all. There are hidden byways, shore lines and beaches, forest walks and open bog land, all offer solitude, beauty and nature. There is a detailed list of walks available at the lodge which is being updated regularly.
Tourmakeady Forest Trail provides excellent walks and the chance to see native wildlife such as badgers, otters, pine martins, stoats and foxes. We offer guided and non guided packages for everyone’s taste from a one hour stroll to a seven or eight hour hike through the surrounding mountain range. We are on the doorstep of the Maumtrasna and Partry mountains with the Twelve Bens, the Maumturks and Mwelrea only minutes away. Return to the log cabin in the evening for a relaxing fireside chat.

Island Day Trips

Clare Island, Inishturk, Inisbofin & Aran Islands.
These Islands are only about an hour or so away and a great place to visit to see another side of Ireland. We arrange walking trips here during the summer and meet up with some of the locals for a pint of Guinness.
